Brent Ruebensam is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Texas. Brent specializes in working with clients who identify as LGBTQIA+ seeking assistance either with particular issues or seeking services to improve their overall mental health. Many of Brent’s clients seek therapy to help them overcome trauma, manage anxiety and depression, process grief and loss, and navigate difficult life transitions. Brent also specializes in working with clients struggling with sexual identity development, sexual addiction and sexually compulsive behaviors, and relationship issues. By creating a safe, affirming atmosphere in each session, Brent provides clients with a space to be their authentic selves while exploring potentially sensitive topics.
Brent utilizes an inclusive and multiculturally sensitive integrative approach toward therapy drawing from Schema Therapy, which includes elements of Attachment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). He additionally incorporates Dialectical and Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in his therapeutic approach. Brent’s clients participate in guided exploration of formative life experiences as well as the complex interplay between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to gain insight into present day functioning. Brent teaches clients how to identify, interrupt, and replace cognitive distortions, which may otherwise lead to self-defeating behaviors.
Brent’s therapeutic style is warm, active, and non-judgmental. Many of Brent’s clients would describe him as intelligent and well-informed, yet very approachable and down to earth. Brent frequently incorporates humor and hypothetical real-world examples to introduce sometimes complex treatment concepts in an understandable and relatable manner. Brent believes in the fundamental right of all individuals to prioritize their mental health and strives to offer high quality therapeutic services to clients of all identities to improve their daily functioning and the quality of relationships in their lives.
