Teresa Johnson is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Connecticut, licensed in AZ, ME, NV, TX and WA. Teresa specializes in working with all clients needing a safe and affirming space to work on personal growth and goals, working through shame, guilt, and difficulty in being their authentic self, as well as processing traumas that may have caused some difficulty in living a life they define as worth living. Teresa also specializes in working with Neurodivergence with a special interest in the ADHD population. Teresa enjoys working with individuals, groups, families, and some relationships.
Teresa takes an eclectic evidence based therapy to include using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Teresa works with clients to uncover their authentic selves by identifying goals, and working to improve overall mood, emotional regulation, negative thoughts (about self and the world), and behaviors to help improve their life to be congruent with what they want to achieve. Teresa uses a lot of psychoeducation in uncovering underlying events, thoughts, and behaviors that have been problematic and works in a collaborative way to help the client achieve the goals they are looking to achieve. Teresa works with clients to uncover therapeutic coping skills as well as replacing negative habits and behaviors with positive new behaviors to help stabilize for long term stabilization.
Teresa is positive, energetic, and collaborative in approaching each person as an individual as well as maintaining a safe and ethical delivery of therapy that helps to challenge people in a healthy way to promote growth and to achieve their personal goals for therapy.
